1. Collective and various local organizations seek the skills of a progressive, passionate, creative, committed artist/graphic designer who wishes to use her/his talents to support community struggles and social movements. Some projects could include: designing websites to design websites to disseminate human rights appeals and build international solidarity, create manuals for partner organizations on issues ranging from domestic violence to sustainable water use, design flyers for local actions and events paint murals on community centers and teaching art at an after-school program for neighborhood kids.
2. Community radio network seeks trainer with experience in radio broadcasting, programming and audio editing who would be able to provide workshops to community groups setting up their own radio.
3. Community radio network seeks technician who can repair radio and/or computer equipment and teach people how to repair and maintain equipment. Help bringing equipment (computers, mixers, transmitters, antennas, microphones, etc.) is also helpful.
4. Collective seeks coordinator of rooftop garden project. Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining small-scale urban garden projects. Coordinator will network with neighbors and other collectives to share gardening and alternative technology techniques. Coordinator will also be responsible for creating programming for children and adult workshops. Efforts towards creating a sustainable living space are in an early phase therefore require an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and self-motivated person.
5. Community-based rural high school in the Mixteca region seeks full-time teachers and part-time enrichment facilitators. Full time teachers sought in English, biology, math. To enrich the curriculum, school also seeks workshop facilitators in areas including, but not limited to (art, ecology, constructive engagement of conflict, alternative technologies, gender studies).
6. Human rights group seeks researcher/translator to work in office on media analysis of human rights violations reported in local newspapers, as well as translations and dissemination of urgent actions.
7. Rural community council seeks environmental educator to live in to work with council to create and facilitate environmental education programs for children and adults. Food and housing will be provided by the community
8. Rural indigenous community seeks part-time or full-time computer literacy teachers for children and adults.
9. Chiapan communities that suffer paramilitary presence seek human rights observers.

Work Areas

CASA works closely with local organizations and communities to recruit and provide orientation for skilled volunteers for specific projects. Through our advisory council in Oaxaca and local contacts in Chiapas we are notified of project needs and seek to fill those positions with interested and qualified volunteers. We focus on the following major work areas.

Community Media

Projects focus on placing control and power of media (radio, video, photography, internet, art, journalism in general) in the hands of community members and marginalized groups as well as offering a critical analysis of mainstream media and disseminating alternative information concerning political violence and social justice movements.

Immigration

Projects focus on analyzing and increasing awareness of the effects of and underlying reasons for migration, as well as treatment of Central American immigrants who pass through Mexico on their way to the United States. We work with organizations that seek to create alternatives to migration or build strong alliances between community members on both sides of the border.

Gender

Projects focus on promoting gender equality and eliminating violence and structural barriers to equality. We work with organizations that empower women, combat discrimination based on sexuality, promote analysis and discussion of social inequalities, and provide support for women's initiatives.

Community Economy

Projects focus on macro and micro economic forces that effect communities, seeking to inform and empower communities to develop sustainable and just local economic structures, support resistance to exploitative development and assist in creating alternatives.

Environment and Urban Agriculture

Projects promote defense of the natural world, environmental justice and sustainable ecological alternatives, and support resistance to development projects that destroy the environment and communities.

Human Rights and Political Prisoners

Projects include human rights accompaniment and collaboration with human rights groups to document abuses, translate documents, and disseminate urgent actions appeals.
