The Chiapas Peace House Project is a center for human rights solidarity work and education in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. The mission of the peace house is to work in cooperation with the indigenous people of Chiapas to safeguard their land, farming practice and traditions. The peace house offers volunteers opportunities to work in indigenous communities and with other nongovernmental organizations cooperating with the peace.
The Field Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Peace House and coordinating work for Peace House Volunteers. In addition the Field Coordinator works with the Peace House Board of Coordinators to ensure the continued viability of the Peace House.
Application Deadline: March 25, 2004
Position Begins: May 10, 2004
Requirements:
Fluency in Spanish;
Previous grassroots organizing experience;
Familiarity with the current political situation in Chiapas and Mexico as a whole;
Supervisory or leadership experience;
A minimum one year commitment.
Preferred:
Experience living and working in Latin America;
Experience living communally;
Fundraising/Grant writing experience.
