Field Coordinator Job Description


The Field Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the program in Chiapas, managing the Peace House and coordinating the volunteers.

Chiapas Peace House Project strives for social justice through education, network building, volunteer opportunities and support for Chiapas organizations and communities.  Our center in San Cristobal, Chiapas provides orientation, affordable housing and a space for reflection and support for activism and solidarity work in Mexico.  We now have  twelve volunteers, an extensive weekly workshop series and have formed relationships with a broad range of organizations and communities.  In 2006-2007 we will expand our work into Oaxaca and develop programming that bridges immigration issues with our work in Mexico. 

1.    Maintain House Expenses: rent, gas, water, drinking water.  Send house expense report and budget to Board every two months.

2.    Coordinate House Logistics:  inform volunteers/visitors of necessary info (i.e. how hot water works, kitchen info, laundry, food, cleaning).

3.    Cultivate and maintain relationships with representatives from local NGOs, identify projects for collaboration.  Arrange to meet with representatives on a regular or semi-regular basis, to discuss specific projects or just to inform them of CPHP progress.

4.    Do volunteer work so as to strengthen relationships with organizations.

5.    Coordinate Volunteers. Transmit information between volunteers and local NGOs. Distribute volunteer work (translation) to volunteers via email, and send translated documents to organizations.  Get volunteers approved for human rights observation.  Introduce volunteers to contacts at NGOs and orient them to projects.

6.    Coordinate monthly newsletter.  Newsletter includes updates on projects, current information about Chiapas political situation, and any other interesting news, facts, or info.

7.  Ongoing Education.  Coordinate weekly workshop series. Put together and maintain collection of orientation and reflection materials for volunteers. Go through orientation process with new volunteers. Go through exit debriefing at the end of volunteer’s stay.

8.    Fundraise in coordination with the Board by writing grant applications and personal fundraising letters.

9.    Planning, promoting and hosting delegations.

10.    Respond to Peace House email, coordinate application process of potential volunteers, meet with interested candidates in San Cristobal.
