Looking forward

Compañer@s:

Although the leaves aren't changing in Southern Mexico, change is nevertheless in the air with the CASA Collectives.

We miss and love Melissa, and are deeply grateful for the 2 and a half years that she spent down here coordinating the Chiapas project, but are nevertheless excited to be taking the house, as always, in new directions. Also underway is the new project in Oaxaca, Casa Chapulin, which our new coordinator Diana Denham is just now heading up. All of this, of course, is taking place during a particularly tense time in Mexico in the wake of this past July's electoral fiasco, and violent confrontations in San Salvador Atenco and Oaxaca City, which has been occupied by demonstrations since May 22nd of this year.

The Otra Campaña is getting back underway on October 9th, and the Intergaláctico meetings have been scheduled: the first one for December 30th, 2006 through January 2nd, 2007, in the Zapatista Caracol, Oventik; and the second will span 10 days and will take place in every one of the 5 Caracoles. We are excited to be working with Narco News and the 'Other Journalism' working on translations of the reporting coming out of the Otra Campaña's caravan, and want to increase our organizing efforts around the Otra as well as plugging into networks in the US that are organizing around these issues.

On a personal note, I am very much looking forward to working with the collective down here in Chiapas, as well as further collaborating with Diana and the Oaxaca project. The turbulent nature of the times calls for political collectives and activists to be engaged in a constant process of critical self-evaluation with regards to the work that they are involved in, and I am excited to share and learn from all of you as we reevaluate the direction and nature of our work. Please be in touch with any questions, casadelapaz@gmail.com, and best of luck in all of your struggles, however big or small they may be - remember that you have love and support from all of us in the CASA Collectives.
