Harassment under the orders of Governor Ulises Ruiz against the caravan of Peoples’ Front in Defense of the Land (Frente de Pueblos en Defensa de la Tierra, FPDT) San Salvador Atenco
The threats came under the guise of the organization Unity of the Social Common Good (Unidad de Bienestar Social de la Región Triqui, UBISORT) from the Trique Region, who tried to prevent their visit to the Autonomous Municipality of San Juan Copala; where after returing to Oaxaca City from a series of events, the members of FPDP were detained and afterwards followed.
Firstly, the vehicle used to transport the members of FPDT was intercepted at 1:30 PM, approximately one kilometer away from San Pedro and San Pablo Teposcolula, at a checkpoint of the Preventative State Police of Oaxaca, where masked people armed with guns started filming and taking photographs of the members of the caravan, without any explanation nor motive to release them. However, the police immediately boarded a van identified as the Preventative State Police without license plates; later in the day, around 2:30 PM at Santo Domingo Yanhuitlan, the Patrol 464 continued to follow the caravan.
At 3:05 PM near the tollbooth on the highway en route to San Pablo Huitzo, the Patrol 864 of the Preventative State Police continued harrassing the caravan, and upon entering Oaxaca City, the Patrol 1028 began following them, again in a vehicle without licence plates, until they arrived to their final destination at CASOTA-Oaxacan Autonomous Solidarity House of Self-Sustaininig Work (Casa Autónoma Solidaria Oaxaqueña de Trabajo Autogestivo)
We hold Ulises Ruiz Ortiz responsible of any physical or psychological harm to the members of the Liberty and Justice Campaign for Atenco during their travels in the state of Oaxaca.
