CASA Board Member Receives Death Threat

This past week CASA co-founder Colin Bossen received a death threat, sent via e-mail, by an individual identifying himself as Arturo Rojas. The threat insinuated that CASA is funded by drug money and warned that if we continue our work in Mexico and to publicize the struggles of the indigenous communities  "youll get problems... you know.... accidents could happen to anyone.... and .... you know... this highways of the third world are very dangerous.... anything could happen."

The threat does not appear to be from anyone affiliated with a paramilitary group and does not suggest that anyone working with CASA is immediate danger. It does serve as a chilling reminder of the current climate in Mexico. The threat pales in comparison to the daily threat of violence that the people of Mexico who are struggling for a democratic society face.
