Walmart Damages Archeological Site

Article written by Colin Bossen

In early September,
activists began mobilizing against the construction of a Walmart within
half a mile of the Teotihuacan, the ancient ruins outside of Mexico
City which boast one of the world's largest pyramids.

Protests have not
been able to halt construction of the superstore despite the fact that
a small alter was uncovered on the site. Gerardo Fernandez the leader
of the PRD filed official charges with the federal Attorney General's
office against the chain for damage to archeological relics. Walmart
says the ancient altar will be preserved in the parking lot and that
the store is scheduled to open in December.
